License plate fraud has become a crime to which any car driver in Russia can fall victim. It entails serious risks for the drivers and poses a dire challenge to authorities.

There are similar problems in the UK. Criminals will use duplicate license plates either to disguise their identity when committing crimes or simply to sell a stolen car. Here's a useful tip: If you place stickers or make other identifying marks on your car near the front and rear license plates, these will be missing from any photos or videos of alleged crimes because these won't be detailed in registration databases, so the criminals won't know of them - it is a good way to establish your innocence in such cases.
