Over two million people are expected to take part in celebrations to mark Russia Day around the country.

Massive celebrations have taken place in over 800 cities across Russia with the major events unfolding in Red Square, the heart of Moscow, where about 15,000 people were enjoying famous Russian pop and rock stars' concert.
Moscow is celebrating its city day this weekend, and with good weather expected and dozens of festive events planned, it’s definitely not going to be forgotten soon – so come and join in!
About 250 workers at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport gathered on the runway to mark the 50th anniversary of one of Eastern Europe’s biggest air terminals. They formed a ‘live’ number ‘50’.

Previously only seen in the movies, Moscow’s retro trams were paraded for the first time around the centre of the Russian capital.
Although Russia has been a navy power for more than three centuries, it was not until 1939 that it got a special date to celebrate its seafaring might. On Sunday, Russia marks the 70th anniversary of its naval forces.
On September 4 the Russian capital celebrates its birthday with a series of parades and entertainment events. RT offers a list of events which you can enjoy during the celebration.
Moscow's mayor has decided to cancel several events marking City Day on September 4-5.

The Victory Parade is a 64-year-old tradition that unites all former Soviet Republics. But an organization in Western Ukraine called 'Svoboda,' is calling for the banning of Soviet Symbols from Victory celebrations.

“It was known to ordinary Russians as Independence Day, but no one could really understand what Russia was independent from.” God bless what Russia does not understand.
