Russia's new short-haul civilian passenger aircraft, the Antonov 148, has been put on serial production. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited the assembling facility in Central Russia on Monday.
The 80-seat jet is flown by two pilots. It is notable for its ability to land on low quality runways and being equipped with its own boarding ramp.
The Antonov-148 can cover up to 5000 kilometers at speed of 820-870 kilometers per hour.
Business-class modification of the jet can accommodate 10 passengers and fly up to 7000 kilometers without refueling.

“Russia is a huge illegal drug market that Afghan traffickers want to expand”The Afghan war has led to a boom in the state’s drugs production. Russia is on the main supply route to Europe and has more heroin addicts than the whole of Western Europe, claims Italian MEP Pino Arlacchi. |
Georgian Simpsons-like movie: feel the differenceA Georgian version of the popular US cartoon “The Simpsons” has become a hit on state TV recently. The main difference from the prototype is that they make lots of fun of Russian politicians, while forgetting their own. |
Daud, Absolutely correct, quality is the way to go. Producing quality products that can take market share both domesticaly and internationally is the way forward, especially when these products are based on our core competencies and competitive advantages. A thriving Aeropsace industry is essential to a modern Russia, it doesn't happen by chance and without support. Our government has done the right thing in supporting it, it can now start to bear fruit. It is a strategic industry that cam provide foreign trade, technological advancement and high value employment for our people. We have domestic demand, with an ailing fleet, to kick start this industry into mass production. We have very good commercial opportunities, we have the products, the demand and the finace. Let's keep moving forward and enable the industry to regain critical mass. This can only be done with the helping hand of government. They have been wise until now, I can only imagine that wisdom will continue as we see a plethora of new aircraft on our domestic routes, supported by creative finance arrangements, so that the whole ownership cycle is fully enabled.

The Antonov-148 is indeed a very impressive aircraft which I hope will achieve global success. This aircraft will help to reestablish Russia's position as a world leader in civil aviation. Owen Lindsay
