An enduring model of Soviet automobile history is celebrating its 35th anniversary. The UAZ-469 was produced for the Defense Ministry and although it's no longer in production it is still on the road.
The production of the vehicle began in December, 1972. The cars were equipped with 75 horsepower engines.
UAZ’s weren't on general sale as they were given to officials. Soviet Leader, Leonid Brezhnev, drove one himself when out hunting.
The UAZ off-roadster was exported to 65 countries. It crossed the Sahara and Gobi deserts and conquered the Pamir mountains.
