Moscow fashion week, now in full swing, is one of the most glamorous events in the Russian calendar. Day three of the show was devoted to Spanish designers, but would real Russian women ever risk wearing these exotic outfits?
The venue for this year’s show is the capital’s World Trade Centre. And Spanish designers Dal Bat & Antonio Garcia, Isabel de Pedro, El Caballo and Armand Basi all flew in to show off their creations.
Isabel de Pedro’s new collection is inspired by… wine. She has travelled to France in order to get to know French wine culture, and is now offering Russian fashionistas a wide range of elegant dresses – all in various shades of red.
“The first thing is that you have beautiful women in Russia,” the designer said, “and they are very feminine! So for us the Russian market is very important!”
Armand Basi, the label mostly famous for its fragrances, has presented both male and female clothes. This ready-to-wear collection is remarkable for its excellent knitwear.
Designer shoes from Spain were also shown off on the catwalk. Among the big names were Acosta, Puntotres, Pura Lopez, RAS, and Sinela. Several other designers joined forces to introduce their shoes – as well as bags – to the Moscow public. From high heel boots to glittering ballet dresses, Spanish designers have provided a vast variety of ideas of what to wear – and what to wear it with.
Industry insiders say Spanish fashion could be a hit in Russia. But it could have a tough job persuading rich and trendy Russian women to give up their beloved French and Italian designers.
