Second military site explosion in four days in Russia kills one.

Gunpowder used for training exploded while a senior officer and a serviceman at the Saratov military base tried to deactivate it. Both men were hospitalized with severe burns.

The officer died shortly afterwards and the other victim is still in critical condition.

This is the fifth blast in a spate of such incidents.

During the weekend, a similar explosion happened while a truck was taking explosive waste to a disposal site in the Altai region. Six people died, four of them were civilians. The case is under investigation.

About a week ago, trucks loaded with shells caught fire and exploded at a military site west of Moscow, killing one and injuring 24. In November 2009, two successive incidents at a testing ground in Ulyanovsk region killed 11.
