Four more towns in Russia have today officially become “glorious” as the country acknowledges them as “Defenders of the Fatherland”.
All the towns played an outstanding role in the Red Army's victory in World War II.
All in all there are seven hero cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg and Volgograd, and 37 cities of “war glory”.
The newbies are Lomonosov in the north-west, Kovrov in central Russia, Taganrog in the south and Petropavlosvk-Kamchatsky in Russia's Far East.
Only the last-named is a regional center. The others are provincial towns with populations ranging from 30,000 to 300,000.
President Medvedev stressed today that despite their size and location, all the towns are united by the patriotism of their residents which contributed to victory 67 years ago.
