Roses cut from beetroot and entire flowerbeds composed of water melons – these are some of the unlikely flora created by participants of a vegetable-carving championship in Sochi.
It's a contest to seek out chefs from across Russia who can make the cut when it comes to catering for the huge influx of athletes and visitors due at the Winter Olympics in 2014.
Vegetable-carving is relatively unknown in Russia but is catching on.
The city says all are welcome to visit and practice carving a masterpiece under professional guidance.
