Thousands of Beatles fans in Russia have been waiting for it for decades and finally, the first-ever monument to the four lads from Liverpool has opened in Ekaterinburg, often referred to as the hub of Urals rock music.

The monument was created a while ago, but the festive opening ceremony took place just now, on May 23, during ‘The Beatles on the Border’ festival organized by the Urals Beatles fan club in central Russia.

Russian fans of the Beatles have raised $26 thousand for the monument which can be found on 8, Gorky Street.

On the eve of the highly-anticipated event, members of The Quarrymen, a band founded by John Lennon with his school friends in 1956, arrived in Ekaterinburg to play a gig.
