Russian tennis player Nikolay Davydenko is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons again. The world number four was warned by the umpire for not trying hard enough in his match with Marin Cilic, as he crashed out in the second round of the St Petersbur
Davydenko, who's currently under investigation by tennis authorities for irregular betting on one of his matches in August, was leading after winning the opening set 6-1.
But the wheels came off as Cilic tied the match.
Davydenko was well off the pace in the deciding set.
He was then warned by the umpire for not trying hard enough.
That seemed to affect Russia's number one even more – he served ten double faults including this one on match point.
Afterwards, Davydenko said he'd been unfairly warned by the umpire – he denies any involvement in match fixing.
Better news though for Mikhail Youzhny, who's through to the quarter-finals after easily beating defending champion Mario Ancic 6-4,6-2. Youzhny now faces Philipp Kohlschreiber on Friday
Dmitry Tursunov is the other Russian in the last eight. He will now play Britain's Andy Murray.
