Elena Dementieva has beaten Svetlana Kuznetsova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the Dubai Open. Dementieva was the surprise finalist, and it is her first title of the season.
Kuznetsova, the number two seed was the favourite as she had a 5-3 advantage in the head-to-head, and Dementieva hasn't beaten her since Indian Wells 2005.
They have only met once before in a final – at the US Open – and Kuznetsova won beating Dementieva in 2004.
