A performance of a laconic military style in black and white – this is the collection from politician, business woman and designer Irina Khakamada and designer Elena Makashova.

Their joint brand, Dress Studio KhakaMa, presents something that in their opinion the fashion industry lacked.
“I do it because I’m a bit sick of the standard glamour,” Khakamada told RT.
This season’s collection is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II. Solid shapes of military coats and uniform jackets have been rethought into feminine-looking dresses. No heels, just flat boots and knee-high boots. They go together with shortcut boyfriend-fit pants.
Khakamada came into the fashion business in 2006 when she first presented a collection together with Makashova’s fashion house.
That happened because she found it too hard to dig the shops and boutiques for the clothes they’d like to wear. And so Khakamada, who is known for her “far from glamorous” style, started creating clothes that are easy to wear, practical and at the same time very stylish.
Despite the fact that the fashion business in Russia is quite young compared to Europe or the US, the self-made designer still believes that it is developing for the better.
“The education is evolving. We have the Textile Institute, we have places to study at. One can go and learn from the well-known masters of fashion like Zaitsev. Everything is developing. The main thing is to have fantasy, imagination and to know what you want to say with these clothes."
Khakamada herself is clearly saying "freedom and individuality", proving that if you have enough creativity and money, you can just go for it.
