Every year kids and teens from all Russia gather in Moscow to take part in the New Year Festival at the Kremlin. This year they had a unique opportunity to skate right on Red Square.
– As well as get a master-class in skating from world champions and receive the greeting of their lifetime.
The action here was directed by the legendary Russian trainer Tatiana Tarasova, with a master-class given by Russian figure skating stars – champions Ilya Overbukh, Tatiana Navka, Roman Kostomarov and Irina Slutskaya.
Some children, with a little help from the renowned skaters, soon looked almost like professionals.
Others were enjoying the view as onlookers, Tatiana Tarasova was wrapping them up in blankets.
The main surprise for the children was to see President Putin come to wish them Happy New Year. He was soon surrounded by the crowd, asking for pictures, and some even giving him presents.
Away from the rink the professional skaters discussed their professional problems. Tatiana Tarasova was trying to persuade the President to build a figure skating rink, the latter assured her of his assistance.
Meanwhile those on the rink simply enjoyed the moment.
