Russia’s Bolshoi Theatre has brought its legendary ballet “Spartacus” to Spain for the first time ever.

One of the key productions by the renowned choreographer Yuri Grigorovich had its premiere 41 years ago in Moscow, and has been a sellout ever since.

With the new breed of Russian dancers in the spotlight, “Spartacus” has come to life once more. According to the 82-year old Grigorovich, up-and-coming stars improve the performance as a whole and their own act in particular.

A ballet in three acts, “Spartacus” is on at Madrid’s main opera house Teatro Real until September 10.
