Shostakovich off the banned wagon!

Revolutionary Russian composer Dmitry Shostakovich has inspired the avant-garde Russian artist Dmitry Krymov to stage a performance, which he presented at the international theatre festival in Lyon.
There’s little dialogue in “Opus Number Seven” which makes the performance easier to understand for European audiences.
Krymov’s work is rich in atmosphere, metaphors and the music of one of the most sophisticated composers of the 20th Century, Shostakovich, which was banned during Soviet times.
Little wonder “Opus Number Seven” has been shown at the “Banned Directions” festival that brings questions of memory, identity and resistance to the stage.
