Maria Sharapova has destroyed Belgium's Justine Henin to make it through to the last four of the Australian Open. Last year's runner-up will meet Jelena Jankovic in the semi-final.

The number five seed stormed into a 5-2 lead in the opening set, and although Henin briefly managed to close the gap, Sharapova held on to win 6-4.

In all the fiery Russian produced thirty winners as she tore Henin apart in the second set without losing a single game.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Mikhail Youznhy couldn’t match Sharapova's triumph in the men’s draw. He went down to French rising star Joe-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets 7-5, 6-0, 7-6.

Youzhny did have a set point at 6-5 up on the tie-break, but couldn’t convert it. He'll now meet Rafael Nadal in the last four.
