Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova, had to make up for a poor start from her team in their Fed Cup first round match with Israel, with Dinara Safina losing to the Israeli number one Shahar Peer.

Safina stormed the first set 6-0.

But crumbled in the second and then in the third, taking only four games from the last twelve and slumping to a three set defeat.

And Maria Sharapova, making her Fed Cup debut, was too strong for 35-year-old Ziporah Obziler.

She won 6-0 love in the first set, too

But, unlike Safina, went on take the second 6-4 and draw the overall standings at one all.
