Russian singer scoops top BBC award

Russian soprano Ekaterina Shcherbachenko has won the BBC’s Cardiff Singer of the World 2009 award, beating stiff international competition.

The Russian ‘queen of drama’ kept Italian opera lovers on the edge of their seat. One of the most charismatic American singers of Russian origin Sondra Radvanovsky gave her first-ever solo performance in Russia.
She is just 22, and goes by the name of Pelageya. But this Siberian singer is already a veteran entertainer. She’s been performing professionally since she was nine, and has built up a loyal legion of fans – including several heads of state.
Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko is to star in the Metropolitan's production of Donizetti's “Anne Boleyn”. The New York theatre plans to stage all three operas from the Tudor Trilogy by the Italian composer.

Anna Netrebko, one of the world’s best sopranos, will be opening the new season at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. She will be performing the main part on “Iolanta”, opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
