In order to do so, the Ministry is going to use the recently adopted e-government scheme: each district in Russia will have a web page featuring the name of head of the district, his biography and picture. The page will also include a list of the areas covered within that district, ways to contact the district office, hours of operation, and a place to post public comments, questions, requests for contact and even police reports.

“For sure, this will be a new experience for policemen as many of them simply don’t have enough knowledge. But gradually they will manage to adapt,” Hardware magazine editor-in-chief Andrey Mikhailuck told RT.

First and foremost, the measure is aimed at building trust between the police and community members.

“The new system will facilitate contact between the policeman and local residents. It will allow him to receive all the necessary paperwork in a shorter time – be it an application or a complaint. On these profile pages, people will be able to get advice from district policeman directly,” Interior Ministry spokesman Oleg Yelnikov told RT.

In addition, many people are increasingly used to communicating through the Internet, so the possibility to get in touch with their local police officers online will be convenient for both sides: for example, people will not have to wait for hours in endless lines in police offices.

Last, but not least, the new system will allow no possibility of ignoring requests from the public, losing them or misplacing them. The police will have to respond to each and every report and request for contact.

The initiative will begin in St. Petersburg and Moscow and then move on to all 54,000 districts in Russia.
