St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theater Orchestra has arrived in the German town of Baden-Baden for a series of classical music concerts to be performed until July 26.
Valery Gergiev’s orchestra takes part at the Summer Festival dedicated to legendary Russian composers, such as Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergey Rachmaninoff and Modest Mussorgsky.
One of the highlights of the classical music fair is Shostakovich’s Symphonies 1, 5, 7, 13 and 15, as well as Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”.
Armenian violinist Sergey Khachatryan will perform Shostakovich’s 1st Violin Concerto, while Tchaikovsky Competition winner Denis Matsuev will present the composer’s 1st Piano Concerto.
