Russian director awarded at Locarno Film Festival

Russian director Aleksey Mizgirev presented his “Buben.Baraban” movie in the Swiss city of Locarno. As the 62nd festival closed, Aleksey Mizgirev received a “Special Jury Prize” and another for “Best Director”.
“Buben.Baraban,” translated verbatim as “Tambourine.Drum” and featuring Natalia Negoda in the leading role, tells the story of a 40-year-old library worker. She tries to make a living by selling books stolen from the library. One day she meets a seaman, a former prisoner, and falls in love with him. Both of them wish to start their lives over again.
The closing ceremony of the 62nd Locarno Film Festival was held on Saturday, August 15. The grand prize – the Golden Leopard – was handed over to Chinese director Xiaolu Guo for his movie “She, a Chinese”.
