The Altai region in Siberia is celebrating its 70th anniversary. As well as being one of the most mountainous regions in Russia, it is also famous for its cheese. The region's capital, Barnaul, is holding a cheese festival as part of the celebrations.

There are more than 60 cheese-making facilities in the Altai region. In Barnaul there is even a whole institute devoted to cheese manufacturing.

Cheese-making has been big in Altai since the 1940s. At this year’s cheese festival they've broken a new record. The cheese nicknamed “The Giant” weighs in at more than 600 kilogrammes, and at 16.61metres is the longest cheese in the world.
