Russia has got off to a great start on the opening day of the volleyball world cup in Saitama, Japan. The 1999 champions made light-work of Argentina, beating them in straight sets.

Vladimir Alekno's side completely dominated all three sets.

Dynamo Moscow's Semyon Poltavsky top scored with 14 points.

It gets harder in the next game though – on Monday they face Australia who beat Korea 3-2 on the opening day.

Puerto Rico top the early standings after they hammered Egypt with Russia in second.
