An inspection team of top Russian officials have arrived in the Black sea resort city of Sochi to review the preparations for the Winter Olympics in 2014. The city is undergoing a makeover with millions of dollars worth of construction.
Sochi is doing everything possible to meet the demands of being an Olympic city. The city is one of three bidding to host the games. The assessment commission of the international Olympic Committee will arrive in Russia in mid February to check how prepared the city is for the big event.Now the Russian inspection team has arrived to review the preparations. German Gref, the Minister of Economics and Trade of Russia, commented, ‘When we came here yesterday we started by examining the level of readiness of the city’s airport. Works have been going on for the past 4 months to get ready for the arrival of the assessment commission of the International Olympic Committee. The level of preparedness is very high, we are ahead of schedule. In general, all the works are going on as planned.’Mr. Gref has also suggested creating a special architecture commission that would be responsible for attracting the best architects to the city.It is expected that the Russian Government will pump than $US 6 BLN into the city as it prepares for the Olympic Games.
