Barcelona FC and Brazilian star Ronaldinho has returned to his hometown of Porto Elegre to open an institute dedicated to helping underprivileged children. The institute is named after the 2-time World-player-of-the-year.

The centre for helping children is to welcome its first entrants in March 2007. Its main purpose is to give kids the chance to practice sports and participate in workshops.

It was an emotional day for Ronaldinho, who is a UNICEF ambassador. He hopes to reach over 3,500 kids with the new project.

“Today is an unforgettable day, probably the most exciting of my life. I have always dreamt of many things, and today I see these things happening. The most beautiful thing in the world is to see all the people that I like and to know that I am able to help them to follow their dreams, to seek a route, to have a chance to be someone in this life,” said the sportsman at the opening ceremony.
