Lee Daniels – “Precious is a role model”

Her life is a hard-boiled fusion of drama – rich in abuse, violence, and despair. The award-winning Hollywood movie “Precious”, based on the novel “Push”, is due to be released in Russia on May 6.
In an exclusive interview with RT’s Valeria Paikova, Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels described his film as a “universal story”.
“Yes, it’s a black girl, yes, she’s in a ghetto, but abuse, obesity and illiteracy – these are all subjects that are universal.”
“In America we often don’t get a chance to see truth. I realized after I did Precious that there are people that are going through a lot worse situations than Precious had gone through… One out of every four Americans are sexually abused. I can only imagine what’s it like in other countries…” Daniels told RT in Moscow, while here for the film’s premiere.
“People who are in the midst of living with home violence will take a look at Precious and recognize their own situation and hopefully address it. Hopefully it will heal them.”
