New details have emerged in the high-profile case of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s murder.

Investigators have ordered an inquiry into whether her killers may have also been involved in the 2004 murder of criminal boss Mikhail Pishchik.

The DNA of the suspects in the Politkovskaya case reportedly matches that found at the scene of Pishchik's murder. If a link is established, the two cases will be combined.

Meanwhile, the editor-in-chief of Russian Forbes magazine has now also taken up the case of the journalist’s murder. He previously looked into the murder of Paul Khlebnikov, though failed to get any convictions.

Anna Politkovskaya was killed in October 2006. In January 2009, the main suspects were acquitted, though the High Court then revoked the ruling.
