Hundreds of people have been pelting each other with oranges in the northern Italian town of Ivrea. Every year local residents re-enact a 12th Century rebellion against the town's evil lord.
The fruit represents the oppressor’s head, which was cut off by a miller's daughter who rejected his advances.
Five hundred tonnes of oranges are shipped to the region to provide weapons for the revelers.
