U.S. presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain have clashed during their second TV debate in Tennessee. They battled over the causes and cures of the country's worst economic crisis for almost 80 years.

Republican candidate McCain called for sweeping new rules to prevent more voters from losing their homes. Meanwhile, Senator Obama described the economic policy of the last eight years as a failure.

The two presidential candidates also discussed relations between Moscow and Washington, saying energy will be a big factor in future dealing with Russia.

Yet Obama and McCain heavily criticized Moscow for its relations with Georgia and Ukraine, which they regard as vital partners in energy security.
