Russia to introduce non-smoking prison cells

The country’s prisoners will soon get more choice when it comes to the cells in which they have to serve their terms.
This is not about room dimensions, levels of furnishing or the view – rather, it is a matter of smoking or non-smoking.
Currently, smoking is permitted in all jails. But the authorities are now keen to defend the rights of non-smokers.
They admit that introducing non-smoking cells will be hard in Russia's over-crowded prisons, but they have already got to work on the idea.
The questionnaire new inmates have to fill in upon arrival now includes a section about smoking habits.
