A new production, based on a novel by famous Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov, has been staged in Moscow. Director, Konstantin Bogamolov, has offered  his latest version of “The Theatrical Novel”, written at the end of the 1930s.

The novel is one of the best known literary works about theatre in Russia.

Every character in the book has a real prototype. Famous theatre innovator Stanislavski was also featured – as one of the characters.

But in the new play original roles can be hardly recognised. The actors say that those who know the book very well will be greatly surprised with the new interpretations.

The stage sets are also unusual. They display lines from Bulgakov's books written on transparent walls. The show is currently on at the Gogol Theatre in the Russian Capital.
