One of Russia’s most celebrated orchestras, the St. Petersburg-based Mariinsky Company, headed by Valery Gergiev, has hit Finland with a series of concerts.

Although the Mariinsky Orchestra is booked years in advance, it regularly performs at various music festivals, some of those in neighboring Finland.

Among the highlights of the long-awaited concert in Finland’s oldest town of Turku are classic works by Russian and Finnish composers, such as Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony #5 and Jean Sibelius’ Symphony #6.

The annual classical music festival runs till August 16.
