A solid-silver copy of the Moscow mayor's flat cap has been auctioned off for $US 1 MLN. The money from the sale will go to a maternity unit in the Russian capital.

The cap's new owner is the director of a Russian construction company, who says it symbolizes Moscow's building boom.

Yury Luzhkov has been the mayor of Moscow for the last 15 years and his cap has become well recognized.
