Chris Gilbert, Head of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce, compares Monday’s blasts to the London Metro bombings.
Gilbert, who was an eyewitness both to the London Metro tragedy back in 2005 and to the bombings in Moscow on March 29, told RT that in both cases the news came as a shock.
“When something like this happens, this is always like a bolt from the blue,” he said. “The thing I remember most is just a general feeling of shock and disbelief that this happened.”
However, Gilbert noted that the blasts had not significantly changed the attitude towards daily routine in the city.
“Any city like Moscow or London has a lot of history behind it,” he said. “Of course, such events obviously affect the way people behave. People might feel a little less sure than usual when using public transport. But eventually, things go on. Big cities tend to be very resilient. You don’t knock such cities off their stride so easily – even after something as tragic as this happened.”
“All my colleagues have valiantly made it to work today. I think this is a perfect example of what Moscow is like. No matter what, people still go to work – unlike London, where the entire transport system was stopped,” Gilbert added.
Quick reaction of emergency forces saves many livesWhile the capital was shocked by the tragic events, some people did not lose their nerve. Thanks to emergency workers’ fast response, many lives were saved. |
