Moscow is celebrating its city day this weekend, and with good weather expected and dozens of festive events planned, it’s definitely not going to be forgotten soon – so come and join in!

Kite Festival in Tsaritsyno

Flying a kite is an art and it is going to be fully demonstrated in Tsaritsyno Park at the “Colorful Sky” kite festival, Izvestia reports. A kite-piloting group from France, whose performances back home draw thousands of spectators, are the festival’s special guests. The real top guns, they master stunts that compare to those of aerobatic teams. Master classes on making a kite with your own hands, aerial battles of Japanese traditional rokkaku kites, and training for young pilots are all on the program – against the backdrop of the sky swarming with kites of all colors.

Classic Cars Parade

There is plenty of life in the old dogs yet, as a parade of classic cars and motorcycles will take place on the grounds of Lomakovsky Museum. Vintage Pobeda, Moskvitch, Zaporozhets, Volga, Chaika and other cars will all be revving their engines on Saturday from 11 am till 5 pm at 58 Krasnodarsky Street.

And near the main entrance to the All-Russian Exhibition Center, classic buses and trolley-buses that served the streets of Moscow in the 1940s and 1950s will be parked.

Starry Sky

Those fond of astronomy will have an opportunity to observe celestial bodies from 8 pm until 11 pm on Saturday using three stationary and five or six portable telescopes at the Steinberg State Institute of Astronomy (13 Universitetsky Prospekt).

Open-air Jazz Concert

Sunday is going to be a jazz and classics day in the center of Moscow, at Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street. The performance will be running from noon until 10 pm and will be accompanied by master classes from famous musicians and artists and small exhibitions of modern photo art, as well as sculpture and poster displays.

Vintage rummage sale

Fancy burrowing into old vinyl records, ball dresses, rare books, stamps, badges and other antiques? The come to the Art Bazaar, the last one this season, which is to take place at Vinzavod’s Green Hangar.

Waiter Contest

Dozens of skillful young people will measure swords or, to be more precise, trays, near the Hotel Metropol at 1 pm on Sunday. At the 17th International Walking with Tray Waiter Contest they will battle for the right to be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records and the Book of Planet Records.

Bakers’ Day

Delicious gingerbreads, custard pies, various cakes and other baking-related foods will be served in Sokolniki Park on Sunday. The attendants will also enjoy bread-baking master classes, games, contests and quizzes.

Wild Cat Adventure

Moscow Day is certainly not the day to miss if you have children. And the Moscow Zoo is thoroughly prepared, offering a show by young Pony Club members at 10:30 am on Saturday which will be followed by a Wild Cat Land tour at half past noon. All comers will have an opportunity to undertake a thrilling tour of the Zoo with stops at felines’ cages. And at 1 pm an educational show will start at the main scene near the Fairytale Tree – and cats will be the main heroes there, too. Life size puppets, circus performers and children creative teams won’t let anyone get bored, that’s for sure!
