This Christmas season the Central House of Artists hosts the 13th annual exhibition of works by Moscow's blacksmiths. These include not only pieces of metalwork but also engravings and oil paintings.
While there is a minimum of practical objects, like hammered tables or railing, decorative works are in abundance. The blacksmiths have devoted many of their creations to great artists of the past. A month ago the same exhibition visited Paris, where the smiths were called “Russian philosophers”. Their main exhibit there was a bridge, all parts of which had been created by different craftsmen. Symbolising the unity of artists, today the bridge has obtained an additional meaning, becoming a passage from this year to the next.
