Moscow officials who initiated the demolition of homes in Rechnik village have been accused of deliberately misinterpreting environmental conservation laws.
A source involved in the negotiations, quoted by Vedomosti newspaper, said the establishment of Moskvoretsky park, a protected conservation territory where it is “against the law” to build houses as done by the residents of Rechnik, was itself illegal. No public debate on the topic was held, as is required, and the city government did not make a presentation to the state committee.
Director of the WWF conservation policy department in Russia, Evgeny Shvarts, believes that the homes in Rechnik pose no problems to the environment.
The case will be debated in court on March 29 as the residents of Rechnik try to sue Moscow city government seeking 100 bln roubles.
