There are still some far-flung parts of Russia where people have never been to the movies. However, a new initiative means residents of remote villages may soon get the chance to watch the latest block-busters at mobile cinemas – without paying
Russia’s Culture Agency has launched a ten-day project that will see a "Cinemobile’ visit villages in the Ryazan and Lipetsk regions of central Russia. Locals will be invited to watch two feature films and a French cartoon, ‘Dragon Hunters’ absolutely free.
In July the Cinemobile will set off on a longer trip, visiting Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Mordovia and Mari El.
The mobile cinema, which cost more than $US 80,000 to build, can stage high-quality film shows. It consists of a van, Ollin Foton, Ford Transit or Hyndai Porter, equipped with all the necessary devices to organise a concert, presentation or movie screening almost anywhere.
