Mix great music with outdoor activities, good food and great shopping and you’ll get the “Afisha” Picnic, one of the capital’s most remarkable open air annual music festivals.
On August 8, Kolomenskoye Park becomes a venue for this spectacular event.
The Picnic is not only a music festival with foreign headliners and Russian stars and newcomers, but also a field for outdoor games, a huge market, and a gastronomical event welcoming the best cooks of Moscow’s restaurants, which makes it one of the most significant events of the summer.
Through the six years of its existence the festival has brightened its history with numerous names in music. This time round it’s Madness, the pop/ska legend from the UK, and Amanda Palmer from The Dresden Dolls.
Madness, to say the least, are among the most fun, daring and rakish bands in the history of contemporary pop-music. They were among the creators of ska and influenced thousands of musicians. Crazy costumes, weird bouncy tunes and all-round fun sum up their style.

Madness come to Picnic following their concerts at “Exit” in Serbia, “Roskilde” in Denmark and “Madstock” in London, which was dedicated to the group’s 30th anniversary. They have just released a new album “The Liberty of Norton Folgate” and despite their considerable age, they are still as bright as a button.
The second headliner, Amanda Palmer, can be called a decadent musician. She’s always extravagantly dressed, expressive and even hysterical. Her exotic voice mixed with violent keyboards playing, wind instruments and even symphonic orchestras, provides a unique sound and eventually makes Palmer a bright representative of the young musical generation.
There were many rumors about The Dresden Dolls’ arrival to Russia prior to those about Amanda’s concerts, but only now they are finally coming true at “Afisha” Picnic.
The festival annually welcomes dozens of thousands of visitors and hundreds of musicians, offering a great mood and a rare chance for the capital’s inhabitants to relax outdoors to the sounds of great music and enjoy a wide choice of other activities.
Musicians of all genres from rock to electronic will be performing in Moscow’s Kolomenskoye on Saturday. Those interested in the latest musical trends and brightest figures of the most popular musical genres – don’t miss a chance to be there at “Afisha” Picnic on August 8.
