Fifty thousand fans saw Madonna's Moscow concert, watching the pop Diva realise a dream she said she's had for 24 years – that of playing the Russian stage.
Madonna madness reigned as the idol launched her “Confessions” tour show at Luzhniki stadium. Weeks of excitement over, Russian fans could satisfy their curiosity at last. A day before the show, Madonna landed at Vnukovo airport, fancy black cars escorted by police waiting to deliver the black-draped star to one of the capital’s top hotels. Accommodation was secure but nothing could stop the fans roaring a welcome for Material Girl. Two hundred tons of stage equipment and lighting were layed out at the venue as a security helicopter hovered above the 7,000 policemen brought in to secure the event. Weeks before the show, Madonna drew fire from the Russian Orthodox Church for including crucifixion images in her tour. Come the day, though, only a few protested.
