When tragedy strikes, it brings with it many terrible accounts of what happened, but there are sometimes positive tales of miraculous escapes.

23-year old Sim Eih-Xing from Malaysia was in the 5th carriage of the train that stopped at the Park Kultury metro station on Monday morning. As usual, the medical student was on his way to university at that time.

U2 sang through his headphones about a beautiful day – something Monday really was before the moment when Sim stepped onto the platform, and the train exploded behind him.

For the few next minutes Sim could not hear anything and thought he had gone deaf.

“If I wasn't wearing these headphones, I would be deaf,” Sim told RT.

Sim's jeans were all full of holes caused by the nails and bolts which the suicide bombers used to pack the explosives to cause the most harm to people.

Sim's left leg is expected to heal up completely soon, but the student says he himself will never be the same again.

The tragedy in the Moscow Metro claimed 40 lives. Those who survived their brush with death say that it was a miracle. They believe they have been given a second chance, and say that they will make the most of it.
