What does a boss of a top-ranking firm do if food at five-star hotel is not good enough for his partners? Damon Buffini’s recipe is a royal dressing down and a burger supper.

Buffini, who heads Europe’s biggest equity group, Permira, was spending the firm’s annual week away together with partners at the Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey.

The millionaire overheard a colleague complaining about the food served by the five-star hotel. The following evening the businessmen were given a big surprise: the boss had asked the kitchen to prepare burgers for dinner. He then proceeded to lecture the staff about how lucky they were to have a job in an industry hit by the global financial crisis, reports the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

The restaurant normally serves pan-fried John Dory fillets, braised shin of veal and buttered gem lettuce, cannon of salt marsh lamb with anchovy, and slow-cooked pork belly, baby onions and tomato vinaigrette, says the Guardian daily.

Damon Buffini is a self-made man. He is a regular churchgoer and is known for his considerable charity work.

On the other hand, Permira group has been criticised in the past for its tough treatment of the businesses it’s bought and has been targeted by union protests on several occasions for axing jobs.
