Jews all over the world are marking Hanukkah, with the biggest celebrations in the U.S. and Israel. The eight-day holiday symbolises the unity of the Jewish people and is regarded as their happiest festival.
In Russia a special celebration will be held in central Moscow. The city's mayor and the chief rabbi of Russia will be among those attendinig an opening ceremony which sees the lighting of the first candle on a menorah.
Each day a different candle is lit at sunset. People exchange gifts given until the end of the festival on December 12.
