Israel has moved into second place, and overtaken Russia, in Euro 2008 qualifying Group E after beating Estonia 4-0. England has closed the gap on the Russian team as well, after its 3-0 win over Andorra.

The Republic of Ireland recorded their fourth straight victory in Group D, with a 1-0 win over Slovakia at Dublin's Croke Park. But the Czech Republic and Germany still lead the way in this Group.

In Group F the Spaniards beat Iceland 1-0.

Ukraine has moved to the top of Group B after a 1-0 win over Lithuania.

The handbrake was applied to Scotland's good start, as Italy won 2-0 with a goal from Luca Toni.

Russia has a game in hand on Israel and England – they are at home to Andorra and away to Croatia in the first week of June.
