Prosecutors know the region where the murderer of human rights activist Natalya Estemirova is hiding. They pledge to arrest him soon.
The suspect is in Russia, Investigative Committee’s head Aleksandr Bastrykin said on Tuesday, although he didn’t say where exactly.
“We are certain of the alleged killer’s guilt due to the bulk of evidence against him,” the senior prosecutor said.
Earlier in February media reported that the killer had been identified citing sources close to the investigation. The information was later confirmed by President Medvedev.
Natalya Estemirova was kidnapped in the Chechen Republic’s capital of Grozny in June 2009. Her body was discovered several hours later in neighboring Ingushetia. The murder of the high profile activist drew international attention, with numerous organizations calling on a swift investigation into her death.
