Today's the beginning of wedding season in Russia. Registry Offices across the country see a record number of couples willing to exchange vows and rings on this day.
The traditional springtime in Russia, following Orthodox Easter is called 'Krasnaya Gorka' or Red Hill. Like spring itself, this is the time for new beginnings and it's the best time to get married.
A wedding that takes place on ‘Krasnaya gorka’, during the weekend after Easter, is considered to have the best chance of being happy.
Even though the holiday itself is celebrated on Sunday, on the eve of Krasnaya Gorka thousands of Russians are taking that chance. Registry offices in Moscow alone are likely to see a record of more than 2,000 couples.
People should have fun on the day. It’s a bad sign for single men or women to spend the day at home and not join the festivities. If they do so, they’ll never find true love and form a life long union.
The day is thought to usually mark the beginning of really warm spring days.
