Based on one of Anton Chekhov’s best-known novels, “Ward #6” from the Russian veteran filmmaker Karen Shakhnazarov will be also vying for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Film category, while “Hipsters” from Valery Todorovsky has already scooped a number of awards at home and abroad.
Should Russian “Hipsters” and “Ward #6” enter the running for the Globes, both will face tough competition from this year’s winner of the coveted Golden Palm, “The White Ribbon”, from German director Michael Haneke, and the award-winning “A Prophet” from French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, among others.
