There's never a shortage of activities in Moscow, especially during the long, warm days of summer. The hardest part of deciding what tickles your fancy!

Music

Spread your wings and fly, as Moscow's biggest open-air rock fest, 'Krylia' ('wings' in English) will be held at Tushino Airfield (Address: Metro 'Tushinskaya') this Saturday and Sunday. Famous foreign artists, the best Russian rock and alternative bands and tonnes of cheap beer are waiting for you. Russian classical rock band 'Alisa' is the headliner of the first day and Australian star Natalie Imbruglia will close the show on day two.

On Friday 20, one of top three world's DJs, Armin van Buuren, invites all Moscow's clubbers to 'Gaudi Arena' (Address: Skladochnaya street, 1, Metro 'Savelovskaya') for the awesome rave-party of the Armada Night record label. The show will consist of three huge DJ-sets performed by DJ Remy, Dmitry 'Bobina' Almazov and van Buuren himself.  

Also on Friday, Russian-Australian band B-2 (Би-2) will occupy B1 Maximum with the “Biology LIVE” programme (Address: Ordzhenikidze Street, 11, metro ‘Shapolovskaya’ or ‘Leninsky Prospekt’, tel. 648-67-77). The group will perform together with their friends Brazzaville from Los-Angeles and Belgian-Ukrainian band Esthetic Education. The two guests are about to play their own songs and cover versions of B-2 hits.

And on Sunday the Brazzaville front man David Brown is expected to appear solo at Ikra club. He is going to sing, show his videos made during the bands Russian tour and answer questions from the audience (Address: Kazakova street, 8a, Metro 'Kurskaya', tel. 505-53-51).

Cinema

Unfortunately, Moscow's cinemas are short of movies in English this weekend.

There is nothing in 'Oktyabr', and still 'Shrek the Third' and 'Evan Almighty' in Dome Cinema, located in The Renaissance Hotel, near 'Prospekt Mira' metro station. 

And 35 MM will screen '1408' thriller about a deadly hotel room, based on Stephen King's short story, with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson in leading roles. (Address: Pokrovka street, 47/24, Metro 'Kurskaya' or 'Krasnye Vorota', tel. 917-18-83).

Theatre

From May 30 to July 29, Russia's capital hosts the VII Chekhov International Theatre Festival.

The main feature of this year's festival is “The season of the Canadian theatre”. The Russian audience will get a chance to see four productions by outstanding contemporary director, playwright and actor Robert Lepage. And this week on Saturday and Sunday Lepage's 'Dragon's Thrilogy' presented by 'Ex-Machina' theatre company is on the stage of Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre (Address: Kamergersky Pereulok, 3, Metro 'Teatralnaya', tel. 629-87-60, 692-67-48).

On Saturday and Sunday the Mossovet theatre will offer its stage for another Canadian troupe – 'Cirque Eloize' with its famous show called 'The Rain' (Address: Bolshaya Sadovaya, 16, Metro 'Mayakovskaya', tel. 699-20-35).

And there is a very special event at 'Aktovy zal' (Address: Perevedeovsky lane, 18, Metro 'Buamanskaya', tel. 265-39-35, 221-07-57) on Saturday 21. 'Tennis' is a performance by choreographer Dmitry Gaitukhevich in which modern dance and shadow theatre face each other in match on tennis court.

Exhibitions and open-air performances

'Europe – Russia – Europe' is the name of the biggest exhibition of this summer at the world famous Tretyakov Art Gallery in the new building on Krymsky Val, 10 (Metro 'Park Kultury' or 'Oktyabrskaya', tel. 951-1362, 238-1378, 230-97-66). 50 first-rate international museums took part in the project and loaned the gallery about one hundred masterpieces of the great European artists: landscapes of Turner, Friedrich and Klimt, sculptures of Rude, Moore and Brancusi, portraits of Cranach and Sargent, canvas of Ribera, Tizian, Teniers, Picasso and Matisse. The exhibition closes on June 29. Do not miss it.

Oleg Kulik, one of Russia most well-known modern artists, especially, for his performance where he acted as a dog, is showing some of his other creations in the 'Tsentralniy Dom Hudozhnika' (Address: Krymskiy Val, 10/14, Metro 'Park Kultury' and 'Oktyabrskaya', tel. 238-96-34, 238-98-43).

Moscow Museum of Outsider Art is always waiting for visitors to take a look at its extraordinary collection. According to the definition of a French artist of the 20th century Jean Dubuffet, outsider art, also known as art-brut, is a spontaneous psychic flow of a person, who is almost not influenced by any social and cultural environment at all. (Address: Izmailovsky Boulevard, 30, Metro 'Izmailovskays' or 'Pervomayskaya', tel. 465-6304, 164-3738).

Light, classical music and water unite in a unique performance named 'Dancing fountains – Aquatic Show'. which you can still visit at the All-Russian Exhibition Center (Address: Metro 'VDNH'). The exiting show near the Stone Flower Fountain starts at 12 o'clock every day and lasts till late evening.

Sport   

There are two top-class games in the Russia's Premier League this weekend. On Saturday 21, the league leaders from Zenit Saint Petersburg will visit Moscow to play with the second placed Spartak at the Luzhniki Olympic Stadium. There's just one point separating the teams, so a very fierce battle is expected. The game will start at 14-00. And on Sunday there is a derby match between two of Russia's best clubs of recent years, Lokomotive and CSKA. None of the teams is showing their best form recently, but a victory over a principal rival may become a great opportunity to put an end to the crisis. The match at Locomotive stadium (Address: Bolshaya Cherkizovskaya, 125, Metro 'Cherkizovskaya') will begin at 18-00.

Rollers, Skaters, BMX riders and all the fans of extreme sport are welcome at Crocus City Mall, as the Crocus Extreme Academy opens its doors on July 20. The new extreme park is expected to become the very best in the city. And the first weeks after the opening will be full of activity. Every weekend, till August 12, there will be extreme competitions for professional and amateur riders and performances by break dance crews, like Da Boogie DJ's and Topor&Gormon that will perform on Friday after the pro-riders championship.
