Moscow is hosting an unusual event, a so-called flash mob. This time thousands of people took to a downtown street to blow bubbles.
The event is a part of the international ‘craze’ called flash mobs, where large groups of people get together at a certain time in a certain place and perform some random activity. And here in Moscow, it was blowing bubbles.
People, young and old, have come down here just to have some fun. This flash mob is organized through social network and sites, such as the Facebook, Myspace and the Russian equivalent, and also by text and e-mail. So it is all supposed to be some sort of secret event.
Flash mobs took off in America in 2003 and recently have regained their popularity. It has been occurring in London, where thousands of people have gathered in London underground stations to take part in so called ‘silent discos’, where they were dancing for hours using their own personal music players. There’s also been a surprise event at London’s Selfridges department store, where people gathered to have a pillow fight.
So, a lot of bizarre things have been happening in the world, and this is Moscow’s version. And it has been a huge success.
