The Freedom Flotilla that was attacked while trying to get into Gaza in May was clearly not a humanitarian effort but a PR campaign, believes Israeli Member of Parliament, Doctor Einat Wilf.

“They acted out what they wanted which is an image of conflict with Israeli soldiers. This is clearly what they wanted. They came into this effort seeking a bad image – clearly a provocation,” she observed.

“We are here fighting a war of ideas and there is a coordinated effort to isolate Israel, to portray Israel as an illegitimate state. We have to respond in kind and we have to protect ourselves by intellectual means. This is the arena where use of soldiers is not the best use,” Doctor Einat said, also noting that she was against the use of force against the Freedom Flotilla.

Doctor Einat Wilf believed Israel should have let the flotilla through in order to deprive its opponents of the image of confrontation they had been seeking.

UNCLE JOE, A people who are oppressed will invariably turn to violence - it has happened countless times in history. Better to stop calling each other terrorists, throwing bombs at each other, and casting hate upon each other. Yes many in Gaza may indeed feel that Israel, established only a few decades ago, is illegitimate, but there are probably just as many in Israel that feel Gaza and a Palastinian State have no right to exist. History has shown that hate and violence begets hate and violence. Perhaps it is time both sides recognise what the rest of the world is now seeing - two peoples destroying each other for lack of mutual respect, understanding and compassion.

Israel has a right to exist without being bombed by rockets. The so-called innocent civilians of gaza are complicit. Opinion polls have shown time and again that they support the firers of these rockets and a terrorist gangster government that does not accept that Jews have any right to exist in Israel. In the West Bank where a more moderate Fatah movement prevails - there is no siege - because there are no significant attempts to stockpile weapons. If the civilians are so innocent - prove it: Eject Hamas from power and start negotiating a 2 state solution.

The Israelis appear not to be the 'masters of media manipulation' after all. The truth surrounding Israeli policy has been suppressed for far too long and it is about time the use by Israel of this medieival tactic of the seige against the Gazans has been reported. The majority of the people who live in Gaza are women and children - another fact that urgently needs to be reported more widely.
